About
Nobody really likes to be told no
I’m a producer, and no matter what, I can always figure something out. I take a creative’s idea, work with them to figure out what they’re most attached to and find the version of it we can actually make. Instead of saying no, I think it’s easier to say, “Yes, this is a freaking awesome idea, but we only have a budget of $1,000, so we can’t spend all of it on this one thing. What else can we do to make this a reality?”
I grew up in a small town in south-central Utah, outside Capitol Reef, where nobody really comes, and nobody really goes. It’s mostly multi-generational families working the same ranches. My family has a hotel out there, and I’ve basically lived in it as long as I can remember, working events with my mom and meeting people from every corner of the earth.
What I do
Because of the hotel, I understand how to work with lots of people who don’t necessarily want to be worked with. They’re usually stressed and having a hard time because that’s just what weddings and family reunions at a hotel are like. I also grew up filming on a GoPro, really liking cameras and being around creativity, and I realized I can combine that with the project management I learned at the hotel to really move projects forward. I understand the creative side and can be part of it, and I also understand the logistics: the time, the people, the budget, the permits, all the things you need to bring a project to life.
On a set
I like to take charge, and I like being part of the creative process, coming up with ideas and how we’re going to bring them to life. I’m still a student, and we work in small groups, so there aren’t really 40 people, each with a different job. In pre-production, I take on a very heavy producer role, bringing people together, gathering ideas and figuring out how to make everything happen. On the day of, I usually take the first AD role because I built the schedule and shot list and know the people and locations. I keep the set moving and on time, so by wrap we’ve gotten everything we need for the edit.

What makes me, me
I like telling real stories that matter, and there are so many unique ways to say something that I want to find fun ways to tell them. I know that’s super cliché, but I want to do it on bigger projects with real weight, the kind that actually make a difference, the kind people remember and are moved by. For me, it’ll always be pieces like Salomon’s Trail Dog or Black Crows’ Ghost Resorts, which speak more to a culture, a land, a group and a feeling than to a product.
Meeting people from all walks of life, I’m able to understand what they want to see and how they want to be reached. I always want to see where things come from and what people carry with them.
I’m also an annual Wikipedia donor, which puts me in a very exclusive club: about nine other people and that one guy who lived down the hall.
I’m always looking for new projects, ideas, books and movie recs, especially if you take your Letterboxd as seriously unserious as I do.
